Q: How to Service and Repair an Intake Manifold for Upper on 2005 Jeep Liberty?
A: When servicing the upper intake manifold, remove the battery cable and remove the connector from the air temperature sensor first. After that, remove the air intake tube attached to the throttle body and the upper air cleaner housing and unplug the throttle sensor, IAC motor and MAP sensor. Remove the vacuum lines for the purge solenoid, the PCV valve and also those for the power brake booster, LDP, EGR transducer and speed control vacuum reservoir if the car has this. Cut away the throttle, speed control and transaxle control cables from the throttle lever and bracket. Make sure the fuel system pressure is released before you pull out the fuel line, coolant temperature sensor/fuel injector wire harness connector or fuel injector harness. Take off all fasteners holding the intake manifold to the cylinder head and lift the manifold from the engine, leaving its openings covered. Ensure the manifold is not warped or cracked and measure its flatness; if more than 0.15 mm rise per 300 mm (0.006 inch per foot) is noticed, you need to buy a new one. Clean the surface around the opening in the lower intake manifold, then add a 1.5 mm (0.060 inch) bead of Mopar Gasket Maker along its edge. Set the upper intake manifold in position and use a wrench to tighten each fastener to 28 Nm (250 inch lbs.) one at a time, until all are adequately tightened. Replace the engine oil dipstick, install the upper bolt into the intake manifold where it belongs and the EGR tube. Connect the throttle cables into the bracket and link the throttle, speed control cables, if you have them, to the throttle lever. Link up all the vacuum lines that move air to the power brake booster, LDP, EGR transducer, speed control vacuum reservoir, purge solenoid and PCV valve, by following your vehicle's instructions. Join the wiring for the MAP sensor, TPS and IAC motor and after that, slot the air cleaner upper housing and air intake tube onto the throttle body. After that, link the temperature sensor connector for inlet air to the sensor and plug the negative cable into the battery.
