2004 Jeep Wrangler Crankshaft Seal Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Crankshaft Seal on 2004 Jeep Wrangler?
A: Before service or repair of the front crankshaft oil seal, you must first remove the crankshaft vibration damper. Then, disconnect the timing belt and use Special Tool 6793 to remove the crankshaft sprocket without damaging the area around the shaft or seal bore. Remove the front crankshaft oil seal with Tool 6771, always trying not to damage the seal surface on the cover. Special Tool 6780 should be used to insert the seal into the opening, making certain that the seal spring is placed on the inside and the face of the seal is flush with the engine cover. Place the crankshaft sprocket again, with Special Tool 6792, then add the timing belt and afterwards, reattach the crankshaft vibration damper.
