2005 Chrysler Crossfire Ball Joint Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Ball Joint on 2005 Chrysler Crossfire?
A: For service or repairs on the lower ball joint, raise and support the car, then eliminate the front wheel and tire. After that, separate the front brake caliper (1) and the front brake rotor (1). Pull out the three bolts from the dust shield (1), followed by the bolt from the front shock and the front spring (1). Take out nuts (1 and 2), but be sure not to tighten the bolt on the special tool using any pneumatic equipment. First, use the Special Tool 9168 Ball Joint Puller (which fits the steering knuckle outer ball joint stud) to press out the outer stud and afterward, use the upper ball joint puller to remove the upper stud in the lower control arm. First, clean the ball joint tapered bolt and the mounting hole of the steering knuckle, then mount the lower ball joint to the knuckle and to the lower control arm. Fasten nuts 1 and 2 with a torque of 105 Nm (77 ft. lbs.). Set the front shelf over the dust shield and bolt the three hex nuts (1), then install the front disc brake rotor (1) and place the front disc brake caliper (1) back on. After that, install the compressed front spring (1), then bolt and secure the front shock absorber and lastly, put on the front wheel and tire assembly.
