2005 Chrysler Crossfire Control Arm Parts and Q&A
Q: How to service and repair a control arm on 2005 Chrysler Crossfire?
A: The first step to repairing the lower control arm is to take off the front wheel and tire and then the front spring. After that, unscrew the lower mounting nut and bolt and after that lift the shock absorber out from the bracket. Take off the sway bar from the lower control arm by undoing the two nuts and the clamp. Use a properly sized wrench to remove the connection nut between the lower control arm and lower ball joint and always avoid tightening any bolts with pneumatic tools when on this special tool. Put on Special Tool 9168 to push out the outer ball joint stud located inside the steering knuckle, then remove the bolts that keep the lower control arm to the frame. Once you've done this, pull the lower control arm out of the vehicle. Slide the lower control arm back into position and bolt it to the frame, but tighten them securely to 120 Nm (88 ft. lbs.). Secure the nut joining the lower control arm to the steering knuckle lower ball joint to 45 Nm (33 ft. lbs.), then fasten the sway bar clamp together with the bolts to the lower control arm to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.). After fixing the shock to the lower control arm with a bolt and nut, tighten by hand until you reach 55 Nm (41 ft. lbs.) Before putting the front spring back in, proceed. Put the vehicle on blocks and look at the alignment before finalizing the installation of your front wheels.
