2005 Chrysler Crossfire Valve Stem Seal Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Valve Stem Seal on 2005 Chrysler Crossfire?
A: The first step in servicing the valve guide seal is to take out the starter and camshafts, then to remove and set a spark plug in the repaired cylinder at TDC. Insert Special Tool 9102 Flywheel Locking Tool into the starter hole to block the flywheel movement and then pressurize the cylinder. Install the assembly tool to compress the valve spring and then remove the collets when they are compressed down onto the valve. Release the spring by twisting the valve retainer and pull out the valve spring, retainer and spring seat together. Use seal pliers instead of a wrench when removing the valve guide seal. Make sure all valves are on the cylinder before you let out the air and do the same thing for every cylinder. Check all valve stems and replace any broken valves. During installation, coat the new seal with engine oil, slip the protective sleeve over the valve stem and push the seal onto the stem using seal pliers. After removing the protective sleeve, set the valve spring seat, valve spring and retainer onto the valve. Install the collets into the seats of the valve spring by pushing them in with the valve stem and assembly tool and then unthread the tool when you finish. Complete this procedure on only one cylinder at once and then do the same for all other valves. Then, put away Special Tool 9102 Flywheel Locking Tool and install the starter and camshafts.
