Q: How to Remove and Install a Timing Cover on 2005 Chrysler Crossfire?
A: Before taking off the timing chain cover, remove the negative cable from the battery and drain out the cooling system. After that, take off the engine cover, radiator fan, accessory drive belt, idler pulley, accessory drive belt tensioner, vibration damper and remove the lower radiator and heater hoses from the water pump. After that, take out the power steering pump, AIR pump and cylinder head covers, then the bolts from the front cylinder head to timing chain cover, ending with the generator. Pick up and support the vehicle and then get rid of the lower and upper oil pans as well as the starter. Turn the crankshaft until you reach 40° ATDC and use the New KTHD Parts Special Tool 9102 to lock the flywheel through the starter opening. Put aside (or remove) the timing chain tensioner and its associated bolts and cover. When you set up the regulator, keep the valve timing locked at 40°. Apply ATDC and sealer where directed, using a 2.0 mm ± 0.5 mm bead within the first 10 minutes without spreading or flattening. Put a bead of Loctite 5900 or its substitute on the spot marked on the first picture, cover the engine block area with the timing chain cover and secure it with two bolts tightened to 20 Nm or 15 ft. lbs. Put in the timing chain tensioner, using a torque wrench to tighten it to 80 Nm (59 ft. lbs.) and afterward take out the Flywheel Locking Tool. Reassemble the starter, upper oil pan, lower oil pan and generator by applying light oil to the head bolt threads. Apply torque of 20 Nm (7 - 15 ft. lbs.) to the front cylinder head to timing chain cover bolts and then install the covers along with the AIR pump, power steering pump, return and pressure hoses, lower radiator and heater hoses to the water pump, vibration damper, idler pulley, tensioner, belt, fan and engine cover. Almost done: Reload all the engine fluids required and link the negative battery cable again.
