2005 Chrysler Pacifica Crankshaft Seal Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Crankshaft Seal on 2005 Chrysler Pacifica?
A: The first step is to take out the transaxle from the vehicle and then take off the drive plate to deal with the crankshaft main bearing seal. Carefully insert a 3/16" wide flat-bladed screwdriver into the gap between the dust lip and the metal case of the crankshaft seal, holding the screwdriver against the metal case to lift the seal; make sure the slide of the screwdriver does not touch the seal itself, although it can touch the edge of the crankshaft. Inspect the crankshaft's edge (chamfer) for any burrs or scratches and use 400 grit sandpaper to clean the area if it is needed to care for seal protection. At this step, secure Special Tool 6926-1 Guide to the crankshaft properly on top as a pilot tool with a magnetic side. Fit the seal gently on top of the pilot tool, so that its lip is over the crankshaft during installation and let the pilot tool stay on the crankshaft the whole time. After that, insert Special Tool 6926-2 Installer into the seal using C-4171 Handle until it reaches the housing's edge and puts the drive plate and transaxle back in place.
