Q: How to Bleed a Brake Master Cylinder on 2005 Dodge Caravan?
A: Before bleeding the brake master cylinder, fasten its mounting flange in a vise, making sure the piston rod, reservoir, seal and body are not compressed. Use the correct bleeder tubes, since the outlet ports change depending on if the brake master cylinder is for a car with ABS. Without ABS, thread the Bleeder Tube, Special Tool 8358-1, into every bleed port and secure it with 17 Nm (145 inch lbs.), then squish the tubes and place the open ends in the reservoir as low as possible. To use ABS brake master cylinders, insert an Adapter, use Special Tool 8822-2, tighten inside to 17 Nm (145 inch lbs.), then attach a Bleeder Tube, Special Tool 8358-1, to each Adapter, also secure the tubes with 17 Nm (145 inch lbs.) and place their open ends into the reservoir. When your reservoir is full, confirm the open part of every bleeder tube is completely inside the brake fluid. Pour in Mopar brake fluid or an alternative that follows DOT 3 requirements and be sure the fluid level is above the bleeders. Inserting a wooden dowel inside the brake master cylinder, slowly press and release the pistons a few times until all the bubbles come out without changing the fluid's level. Once bleeding is done, get rid of the bleeder tubes, cap off the outlet ports and put on the fill cap for the reservoir. Afterward, take out the brake master cylinder from the vise and set it up on the vehicle.
