2005 Dodge Caravan Wheel Cylinder Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Wheel Cylinder on 2005 Dodge Caravan?
A: Before servicing or repairing the wheel cylinders, press down the brake pedal far enough with a depressor tool to hold it delayed past about 1 inch, raise the vehicle and take out the wheel and tire set. Take the brake tube off at the rear of the wheel cylinder, seal the open part of the brake tube and then unattach the brake drum and both shoes from the brake support plate. After this, take out the 2 bolts connecting the wheel cylinder to the brake support plate, then take the cylinder out. Take off the brake drums and check the wheel cylinder boots for any brake fluid, cuts, tears or heat cracks; if anything is wrong, wash the wheel cylinders and replace the damaged parts. When a wheel cylinder is not working properly and more fluid can no longer absorb into the brake lining, you need to change out the brake shoes. For installation, line the opening in the brake support plate with a bead of Mopar Gasket-In-A-Tube sealant, then put the wheel cylinder in place and tighten the bolts to 8 Nm (75 inch lbs.) torque. Put the brake tube into the wheel cylinder, tighten it with 17 Nm of torque and then add the rear brake shoes to the brake support plate and mount the brake drum. Install the wheel and tire, fastening the lug nuts to 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.), adjust the brake shoes, remove the brake pedal depressor tool, bleed the brakes if needed and finally drop the car to the ground.
