2006 Dodge Dakota Crankshaft Seal Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Crankshaft Seal on 2006 Dodge Dakota?
A: Serve the crankshaft rear oil seal by taking out the transmission and the flexplate first, as the seal will not work after it has been removed. Make sure Special Tool 8506 is pushed deeply into the crankshaft rear oil seal and turned tightly; if installed properly, this tool should not be able to twist free before loosening the seal. Applying engine oil to the crankshaft flange, install Special Tool 8349-2 onto the crankshaft at the rear face and place the oil seal onto the guide. Pound the seal into the cylinder block crankshaft bore using Special Tool 8349 and the C-4171 driver handle, until the seal installer sits against it. After that, replace the flexplate and transmission on the engine.
