2005 Dodge Dakota Timing Chain Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Assess Timing Chain Wear on 2005 Dodge Dakota?
A: The first step in measuring chain wear is to remove the timing chain cover. Rotation the engine clockwise so that the maximum distance out is reached on the tensioner piston. Take a measurement from the secondary timing chain tensioner housing to the step ledge on the piston; this number should not be more than 15 mm (0.5906 inches). Should the measurement meet the specification, the secondary timing chains need to be changed because they have become worn.
