2005 Dodge Dakota Exhaust Valve Parts and Q&A
Q: How Can Exhaust Valves and Intake Valves Be Reworked for Optimal Performance on 2005 Dodge Dakota?
A: Should valves and seats become worn or burned, they can be refitted as long as the angle and width are still correct; if they fail, then it's the cylinder head that needs to go. It is very important to select the proper valve guide pilot size when facing valves and seats to ensure the stone reaches the perfect contact point. Make sure the dial indicator you use to check the center of the valve seat registers a total run out of not more than 0.051 mm (0.002 inch). Place some Prussian blue on the valve seat, insert (4) or (5) into the cylinder head and move the valve while giving it gentle turns. After removing the valve, inspect the valve face; if the blue appears below the top edge, lower the valve's level with a 15 degree stone and if it reaches the bottom edge, raise it with a 65 degree stone. The width of both seats in the right position must be 1.75 - 2.36 mm (0.0689 - 0.0928 inch) for the intake seat and 1.71 - 2.32 mm (0.0673 - 0.0911 inch) for the exhaust seat. After you finish refacing (4) and (5) and the seat, check the height of the valve springs on both sets; only 40.74 mm (1.6039 inch) is acceptable for both intake and exhaust. Both the valve face and valve seat must keep their face angle at 44.5 - 45.5 degrees.
