2005 Dodge Dakota Wheel Bearing Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair Wheel Bearings on a Rear Axle with an 8 1/4 Configuration on 2005 Dodge Dakota?
A: The repair of an 8 1/4 rear axle should be started by pulling out the axle shaft and then taking out the axle seal using a seal pick. Lift the bearing receiver onto the axle tube, pass the bearing remover foot through both and tighten the nut to remove the bearing into the holder. It is important to clear the axle tube of any previous sealer or burrs before installation. Attach the axle shaft bearing by using Installer C-4198 and Handle C-4171 and keep driving the bearing until the tool hits the axle tube. Apply lubricant to the lip of the brand new seal and insert it into the axle at the same position where you removed the old seal. The last step is to replace the axle shaft.
