2005 Dodge Grand Caravan Heater Core Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service a Heater Core on 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan?
A: For service on the front heater core, disconnect the negative battery cable, then stand by for about two minutes before the air bag system's capacitor discharges. Undo the brackets around the bottom edge of the lower steering shaft from the dash panel and move it out of the way, then take the brake lamp switch from its bracket on the top of the fender and remove its power input rod from the brake pedal, protecting the carpeting below the heater core with absorbent waste material. After that, take out the heater core tubes and unscrew the two mounting plate screws from the HVAC air distribution housing. Gently pull the heater core out by pressing the accelerator and depressing the brake to clear the way, inside the air distribution housing. To put the heater core in, place it in the HVAC air distribution housing, still holding the pedals in normal position, then firmly tighten the two screws to 2 N.m (17 in. lbs.). Next, attach the heater core tubes, reconnect the brake pedal arm to the brake booster rod and install the brake lamp switch into its bracket. After all that, put the silencer boot at the base of the shaft, reattach the battery cable's negative run, flush the cooling system when the heater core is removed and top off the radiator with coolant.
