2005 Dodge Ram 1500 Air Bag Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service the Air Bag Sensor in a Quad Cab on 2005 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: Before servicing the impact sensor in a Quad Cab, unplug and isolate the battery terminal, then wait two minutes so the capacitor in the air bag discharges. Don't strike or drop the side impact sensor, as it could become damaged or miscalibrated; any drop will make it necessary to replace the sensor. Begin by pushing the front seat as close as it will go which gives you access to the B-pillar trim and loosen the nut holding the side impact sensor in place inside the B-pillar. Slide behind the inner B-pillar's retractor hole and unscrew the small black pin and mounting stud attached to the sensor. Take out the sensor far enough so you can pull out the body wire harness connector from the sensor connector receptacle and then take the sensor out. During installation, attach the side impact sensor into the hole above the retractor mounting hole in the inner B-pillar and make sure the body wire harness connector is joined. Attach the anti-rotation pin and stud to their corresponding location from the sensor and on the inside edge of the B-pillar mount the securing nut tightly onto the 8 N.m (70 in.lbs.) setting. The supplemental restraint system verification test should finish and only then should you connect the battery negative cable after servicing any SR supply components.
