2005 Dodge Ram 1500 Knock Sensor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Properly Remove and Install a Left Knock Sensor on 2005 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: You can tell the left knock sensor by the tag that says LEFT and a larger bolt head and it is important that the PCM detects the right location to prevent confusing the sensors. Start by taking off the dual loom that is connected to the knock sensor sensors on the engine near the back. Next up, take out the intake manifold and the sensor mounting bolts and remember that securing the bolts to the sensors is only done with the foam strip during plant assembly and is enough, without the need for sealants. Thoroughly clean each hole where the sensors were placed and replace the new sensors into your cylinder block. Avoid either tightening the sensor bolts too loosely or too strongly, because it might interfere with the sensor and result in erratic spark control; the knock sensor bolts should always be tightened to the recommended, low torque setting. Following the torque specification, insert the intake manifold and attach the knock sensor wiring cable to the engine harness.
