2006 Dodge Ram 1500 Air Bag Sensor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Safely Service an Air Bag Sensor on 2006 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: Disconnect the supplemental restraint system's negative battery cable to disable the sensor and let the capacitor discharge for two minutes before starting service. Struck or dropped, the front impact sensor can become damaged or lose its calibration; if this occurs, a new one must be fitted. The first step is to take out the screw fixing the front impact sensor to the back of the lower radiator crossmember and then remove the sensor's wire harness connectors from the headlamp and dash. Take out the sensor from inside the engine compartment. During installation, connect the new front impact sensor to the engine compartment, attach the dash and headlamp wire harness to the connector and position the sensor on the back of the lower radiator crossmember so the anti-rotation pin engages. Screw the sensor onto the support block and tighten it to 10 N.m or 90 in. lbs. Never connect the negative battery cable while inside the supplementary restraint system verification test procedure after doing work on any part of the system.
