2005 Dodge Ram 1500 Radiator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove and Install a Radiator in a 3.7L/4.7L/5.7L Engine on 2005 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: It is important to disconnect the negative battery cables and drain the cooling system before removing the radiator from a 3.7L/4.7L/5.7L motor, so the cylinder block drain plugs and radiator draincock are not disturbed when hot. When replacing or fitting constant tension hose clamps, use the proper tools and always put on safety glasses. Honestly, if you need to change these clamps, get genuine parts that have numbers or letters just like the originals. Afterward, get rid of the hose clamps and hoses that attach to the radiator, separate the reserve/overflow tank hose from the radiator filler neck and pull the tank up straight from the fan shroud. Lose the connections between the power steering hoses and fan shroud, remove the loose electrical connections from the reserve tank area and get rid of the reserve tank. Disconnect the shroud by undoing the bolts that attach it near the engine and removing the shroud from the radiator tank clips, putting it over the fan blades at the rear of the radiator. Cut open the transmission and power steering lines, seal them and ensure they don't leak during the removal. Get rid of the mounting bolts at the higher part of the radiator and lift it up straight out of the engine bay, avoiding damaging anything inside. The radiator should be installed with the alignment dowel and a retaining bracket that has rubber insulators. Use cold water and a compressed air spray on radiator fins and inspect the side tanks for cracks and check the core for any corrosion or damage. Install the fan shroud on top of the fan blades, put the rubber insulators onto the lower radiator mounts, slide the radiator into position while focusing on the dowel and attach the upper bolts tightly with force to 90 inch lbs./10 Nm. After that, secure the lower radiator hose and clamp, attach the power steering hoses to the cooler and fix the lines of the transmission oil cooler secured with extra latches. Set the fan shroud into the chassis clips and tighten the bolts to 8.5 Nm (75 inch lbs.) and then mount the power steering hoses to the clip on the lower shroud. Put in the washer reservoir tank, link the hose and electrical connector and fasten the coolant reserve/overflow container hoses to the radiator filler neck with clamps. Install the reserve container, fasten its bolts to 8.5 Nm (75 inch lbs.), connect the upper radiator hose and secure it, put back the negative cable to the battery, fill the cooling system, start the engine and while it runs, check the fluid inside the cooling system.
