2005 Dodge Sprinter 3500 A/C Hose Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair an A/C Hose on 2005 Dodge Sprinter 3500?
A: When starting to service the HVAC suction line, first drain the refrigerant and disconnect the grounding wire on the negative battery first. Unscrew the retaining nut and take out the routing clips, both metal and plastic, remaining on the A/C suction line and expansion valve. Later, take out the nut holding the suction and liquid lines together around the A/C expansion valve, disconnect the lines and get rid of the O-ring seals. Put plugs or tape over the opened liquid lines and suction lines, as well as the ports of both expansion valves. Take off the bolt from the connection between the A/C suction line and A/C compressor, pull the suction line away, throw out the O-ring and use tape to secure the open sections of the suction fitting and compressor suction tube. Take out the A/C suction line from the engine section. Place the suction line of the A/C unit into the engine bay and take off the plugs or adhesive tape covering both suction line fittings and the compressor suction port. Using clean oil, lubricate an O-ring seal and attach it to the suction line fitting and only after that should you connect it to the air conditioner compressor. Lengthwise, join the A/C suction line to the bolt and tighten it until you reach 23 N.m (17 ft. lbs.). Take off the tape or plugs from the liquid and suction line fittings and both expansion valve ports, grease the new rubber O-ring seals with clean refrigerant oil and put them in place on the fittings. Couple the A/C liquid and suction lines to the A/C expansion valve and screw on the nut, setting it to 112 in. lbs. Attach the metal routing clip to the AC suction line and join it to the body stud, then put in the routing clip retaining nut and secure it to 5 N.m (45 in. lbs.). Afterward, put the plastic routing clip retainer on the A/C suction line, reattach the negative battery cable, evacuate the refrigerant system and charge it.
