2004 Dodge Sprinter 3500 A/C Hose Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Replace an A/C Hose in HVAC System for Liquid Hose on 2004 Dodge Sprinter 3500?
A: The first step is to get rid of the refrigerant and remove the negative battery cable, then you can change the liquid A/C line. First take out the grille and front fascia, then unscrew the nut holding the liquid line fitting on the left side of the condenser. Separate the A/C liquid line from the condenser, throw away the O-ring and seal the newly opened fittings with a plug or tape. Get rid of the routing clip nut, separate the routing clip from the liquid line front end and undo the A/C pressure sensor from the front liquid line fitting. After that, remove the bolt that connects the liquid line's front section to the receiver/drier, loosen the connection and throw away the O-ring seal, remembering to seal the two open fittings. Take out the front part of the liquid line from inside the engine compartment. Do the fridge recovery and battery removal for the back section as well, then pull out the grille. Remove the nut holding the A/C suction and liquid lines to the A/C expansion valve, pull the lines apart and get rid of the special seals on the lines. Unclip the retainer from the liquid line near the back, remove the bolt holding it to the receiver/drier and disconnect the back section from the receiver/drier, throwing away the seal from the liquid line outlet. Block off the open fittings with stoppers or tape and then remove the back section from the engine area. Lay the front section of the liquid line in the engine compartment, peel away any tapes or blocks, grease a new rubber O-ring seal with clean refrigerant oil and insert the lubricated O-ring on the tube fitting over the receiver/drier before attaching the tube. Use a bolt turned tight to 7 N.m (62 in. lbs.) to secure the fitting and then position the outer section into the routing clip by inserting the nut tightly set to 5 N.m (45 in. lbs.). Unplug the tape or put on the special plug from the condenser outlet port, slip a new O-ring seal onto the liquid line fitting and insert it into the condenser outlet port, tightening it with a nut that's been tightened to 17 N.m (12 ft. lbs.). Place the A/C pressure transducer, front fascia and grille back, followed by connecting the negative battery cable. Remove everything from the refrigerant system and then add a suitable refrigerant. For the back end, fit the piece inside the engine compartment, remove the sealant or the plugs, moisturize new O-ring seals and put them onto the suction and hose line of the expansion valve. Fit the fittings onto the A/C expansion valve and tighten them with a nut to 10 Nm (89 in. lbs.). Add a new lubricated O-ring seal to the liquid line fitting, put it on the receiver/drier outlet port and tighten the bolt with 7 Nm (62 in. lbs.) torque. Place and secure the routing clip retainer, fit the new front fascia and grille, link the negative battery cable again and drain and recharge the vehicle's refrigerant.
