2005 Dodge Stratus Timing Cover Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Install Timing Covers and Their Components on 2005 Dodge Stratus?
A: You should remove the fasteners from the upper timing belt cover, then take the cover itself off. Before unlocking the car, disconnect the negative battery cable, lift up your vehicle on a hoist, remove the right front wheel and the belt cover underneath it, release the accessory drive belts and uninstall the crankshaft damper and AC/Generator belt tensioner. Lower the vehicle, unconnect the generator power leads and remove both the generator and its bracket. Lift up the vehicle once more to take out the fasteners from the lower timing cover, then remove the cover. For the rear cover, first get rid of both the upper and lower front timing belt covers, then remove the Timing Belt itself, then the Timing Belt idler pulley. While you hold the camshaft sprockets together with Special Tool 6847, you should remove the center bolts by hand. Then, remove the fasteners on the rear timing belt cover and lift the cover from the engine. When you are installing the timing belt, tighten the screws in the top cover to 6 Nm (50 inch lbs.), next put on the bottom cover and torque the screws to this setting too. Following installation of the generator and bracket, return the vehicle to its raised position, fit the AC/Generator belt tensioner, crankshaft damper and accessory drive belts and then fasten with bolts. Attach the belt splash shield and right front wheel, lower the vehicle and put back the negative battery cable. When fixing the rear timing belt cover, apply all fasteners and tighten them to the correct ones, install the camshaft sprockets using Special Tool 6847 and tighten the center bolts to 115 Nm (85 ft. lbs.). Then, get the timing belt idler pulley set and add the timing belt, ending with putting in place the upper and lower front timing belt covers.
