Before servicing the
Timing Belt cover, first remove the fasteners and then the cover itself from the upper position. Disconnect the negative terminal cable then lift the vehicle up onto a hoist. Take out the right front wheel, the belt splash shield and then remove the accessory
Drive Belts, crankshaft damper and AC/Generator belt tensioner. Lift up the vehicle and separate the generator cables before you remove both the generator and the bracket. Bring the vehicle up and take out the fasteners which keep the lower timing cover attached. Remove the timing belt and separate both upper and lower front covers from there. To remove the timing belt, first pull out the
Timing Belt Idler Pulley and camshaft sprockets, holding the sprockets with Special Tool 6847 as you remove the central bolts. After that, disconnect the fasteners holding the outer timing belt cover and lift the cover off the engine. Installation begins where the upper timing belt cover is torqued at 6 Nm (50 inch lbs.), then move on to the lower timing belt cover, setting the bolts at the same torque. Reduce the height of the vehicle and install back the generator and bracket, linking the generator's connectors. Lift the vehicle once more to install the AC/Generator belt tensioner, crankshaft damper and accessory drive belts. When the car is raised, replace the belt splash shield and right wheel and only then lower the vehicle and reconnect the negative
Battery Cable. Lastly, put in the rear timing belt cover and attach its bolts, tightening them to the proper torque and next, set the camshaft sprockets and give the two center bolts a final torque of 115 Nm (85 ft. lbs.) while using Special Tool 6847 to hold them steady. Mount the timing belt idler pulley, the timing belt and install both front upper and lower timing belt covers.
