2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Fuel Rail Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service a Fuel Rail on 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: Always remember to let air into the fuel system because the pressure stays in the fuel rail, even if the engine is off. The left and right fuel rails should be replaced together, without trying to pull them apart at the male and female connector tubes which don't use clamps. You must remove the fuel tank filler tube cap and repeat the fuel system pressure-release steps. Take out the negative battery cable, remove the air duct and air box at the throttle body and use two bolts to disconnect the air resonator mounting bracket. Unhook the fuel rail clip and the fuel line by using a particular tool designed for disconnection. Make sure to remove all necessary lines and connectors from the six fuel injectors, first pushing the red slider far from the injector and pressing the tab to pull out the connector. The factory fuel injection wiring harness is marked to guide identification of the injectors. Unplug all electrical connections at the throttle body sensors and follow this by removing the six ignition coils. After that, undo the four bolts on the fuel rail mounting and gently shake and pull the left fuel rail side until you see the injectors move away from the cylinder head holes, then repeat for the right rail and every injector. Lift off the fuel rail that includes the injectors from the engine. If you are installing fuel injectors, clean out the bores in your intake manifold and add engine oil to the rings of each injector. Put the fuel rail/fuel injector assembly into place in the machined areas of the cylinder head, making sure each injector does not cause the O-rings to tear. Pressure down on both ends of the fuel rail until the injectors are inserted on the proper part of the engine head and attach and tighten the four bolts on the fuel rail using the recommended torque numbers. Install the six ignition coils again, join each electrical connector to the throttle body and every fuel injector and check that every connection is tight. Attach vacuum lines where necessary, install the air resonator bracket, join the latch clip and fuel line to the fuel rail and put the air box and air duct back in place. Then, reattach the battery cable, begin the engine and keep an eye out for any leaks.
