2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Throttle Cable Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Throttle Cable on 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: To service or fix the throttle cable and linkage, raise the accelerator pedal inside the vehicle, unclip the plastic cable retainer and remove the cable core wire from the upper end of the pedal arm without harming the core. Remove the cable core wire at the pedal arm next, then remove the steel clip locking the cable to the dash panel. Get rid of the throttle body air resonator box and release the cable from its fixture on the dash routing clip. Draw the cable housing out of the dash and then into the engine compartment. Push the throttle all the way and take the throttle cable pin out of the bellcrank in the throttle body. Press the release tab with a pick or screwdriver to separate the plastic mount from the bracket, while you slide the mount toward the right side to remove the throttle cable from the bracket. Insert the accelerator cable plastic mount into the throttle body mounting bracket until the release tab is through the bracket hole. Set the throttle at its fullest opening and then push the throttle cable pin inside the throttle body bellcrank. After pushing the grommet through the hole in the dash, put the cable wire through the top of the pedal arm, from the inside. Place the plastic cable retainer securely into the pedal arm hole until it clicks in, fit the air resonator onto the throttle body and test the accelerator pedal before starting to confirm proper movement.
