2005 Jeep Liberty Axle Shaft Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair an Axle Shaft on 2005 Jeep Liberty?
A: For service or repairs on the axle shaft, start by shifting into neutral, using a hoist and then removing the cover on the differential housing to drain any fluid. Turn the differential case around so you can reach the pinion mate shaft lock screw which you should remove before removing the pinion mate shaft from the differential case. Bring the axle shaft inward until the lock at C-lock comes loose, then pull the assembly from the side gear and axle. The installation process is to apply gear lubricant to the bearing and seal, push the axle shaft through the seal and bearing and engage it with the side gear splines. Place the C-lock onto the axle shaft end and then push the axle shaft out so the C-lock seats properly in the side gear. The next step is to place the pinion mate shaft in the differential through thrust washers and differential pinions and ensure that the two holes are lined up properly. Use Loctite on the threads of the lock screw, then tighten them with 11 Nm of torque. Please reinstall the differential cover and rear brake parts once all is finished.
