2005 Jeep Liberty Power Steering Reservoir Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Maintain and Repair a Power Steering Reservoir Across Various Engine on 2005 Jeep Liberty?
A: Begin by taking out as much power steering fluid from the power steering reservoir as possible. In the diesel motor, take off the hoses for the power steering, then detach the bolt that holds the reservoir to the bracket and finally remove the reservoir. First, take out the power steering pump from the 3.7L model and put it in a safe holding fixture. Pull gently on the lock tab to remove the clips and then take the power steering reservoir off the pump body. Siphon out the oil for the 2.4L model, remove the power steering hoses and then take out the bolt that connects the reservoir to the bracket before removing the reservoir. When assembling the diesel model, fit the power steering reservoir to the bracket and tighten the bolt to 12 Nm, put the hoses back in and check for leaks as you are adding more power steering fluid. With the 3.7L model, fit the power steering reservoir onto the pump's body, install the clips, position the pump onto the engine and add power steering fluid, paying special attention for any leaks. To finish the 2.4L model, hook the power steering reservoir to the bracket, make the bolt tight, fit the hoses, pour power steering fluid while checking for signs of a leak and you are done.
