2005 Jeep Liberty Tie Rod End Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Tie Rod End on 2005 Jeep Liberty?
A: To start, raise and support the vehicle, remove the tire and wheel assembly and mark the end jam nuts on the steering gear for reference during assembly. With a wrench, pull out the tie rod end jam nut (1) and then remove the outer tie rod end (3) nut. Detach the outer tie rod end (3) from the knuckle with tool C3894A and watch the number of turns on the knuckle during the process. After that, take off the outer tie rod end (3) attached to the inner tie rod (2). When installing, attach the outer tie rod end (3) loosely to the inner tie rod end (2), set it to the same number of turns counted in removal, then attach it to the knuckle and tighten the nut to 108 Nm (80 ft. lbs.). Screw the jam nut until it reaches 76 Nm or 55 ft. lbs., attach the new tire and wheel once more and center the steering wheel as you reset the toe.
