2005 Jeep Liberty Rack And Pinion Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair the Rack and Pinion Steering Gear on 2005 Jeep Liberty?
A: Pick a time when the engine is no longer hot, then use a siphon to take out all of the power steering fluid from the reservoir. First, make sure the steering wheel is locked so the Clock Spring won't spin and then lift and support the car. You have to take off the skid plate under the front to reach the area where the rack and pinion, tire and wheel are attached. Place a mark on the alignment adjusting cams and jam nuts on the tie rod ends, making installation much easier. After that, unscrew the tie rod end nuts and use the Puller C-3894-A to detach the tie rod ends from the knuckles. Pull the lower intermediate shaft coupler pinch bolt and remove the coupler from the main rack and pinion. Unclamp the power steering pressure hose mount and take out the power steering lines from the rack and pinion. In the end, remove the bolts holding the rack and pinion onto the front cradle and take out the steering rack and pinion from the car.
