2006 Chrysler Crossfire Air Bag Parts and Q&A
Q: How Should You Safely Service and Repair a Driver Air Bag on 2006 Chrysler Crossfire?
A: Before you service the air bag, disconnect the negative battery cable and let the system capacitor drain for two minutes so no accidental air bag is deployed and you do not get hurt. On the underside of the vehicle, unscrew the two screws that hold the driver air bag to the steering wheel and then pull the air bag to reach the electrical connections. Unplug the wires from both the horn switch and the Clock Spring driver air bag pigtail, being careful that you don't pull on the wires or pry on the insulator to avoid harming the air bag circuits. Take the driver air bag off the steering wheel so that it does not fall face down on a rigid surface. When the driver air bag has been triggered, you must replace the Clock Spring. Make sure the negative battery cable is removed before you wait two minutes for the capacitor to discharge. Mount the driver air bag right next to the steering wheel so the squib and horn harness connections are close and ensure that the Clock Spring wires and horn switch harness do not become pinched. Insert the driver air bag into the steering wheel and secure it with the two screws, tightened to 8 N.m (71 in.lbs.) on the bottom. Do not attach the negative battery cable until the verification test for the Supplemental Restraint System is done after any service.
