  • Q: How Should You Handle Seat Belt and Child Restraint Anchor Services on 2006 Chrysler Crossfire?
    A: Make sure to examine all seat belts, buckles, mounting hardware, retractors, tether straps and anchors after every seat belt or child restraint anchor service. Update any belt that is torn, cut or frayed, fix any belt that is twisted, tighten loose fasteners and replace a belt that has a damaged or not working buckle or retractor. Swap out any anchor or the part of the car that has an anchor, that has become bent or damaged. Don't try to fix a seat belt or baby seat restraint system; always throw out a damaged or broken part and use the right parts straight from the DaimlerChrysler Mopar parts catalog. You should never take apart the seat belt tensioners and do not apply oil or grease inside them. Before working on anything, place the seat in front and remove the negative battery cable. Wait for two minutes after the system capacitor discharges before you continue. Lift the plastic bolt cover off the seat, unbolt the step next to the seat, remove the screws joining the roof to the door cover, detach the plastic door cover and lift the door edge guard. Loosen the bolt that joins the belt guide to the car, flip back the carpet over the upper corner area and pull out the connector for the seat belt tensioner squib harness without tugging on the connector wires or insulator. Disconnect the bolt holding the seat belt tensioner to the car and take out the tensioner. Ensure that the negative battery cable is away and don't touch anything for two minutes until the system capacitor has fully discharged. Add the seat belt tensioner to the vehicle, attach the nut securing it to 35 N.m (26 ft.lbs.), then plug the seat belt tensioner squib harness connector, double-checking the assembly to prevent damaging the air bag circuits. Place the upper belt guide bolt and tighten it to 35 N.m (26 ft.lbs.), fit the carpet into its place in the upper corner area, cover the seat belt plastic, fasten the screws holding the plastic in, introduce the door edge guard, tighten the bolt at the seat belt belt end to 35 N.m (26 ft.lbs.) and install the plastic bolt cover over the bolt on the seat. For now, don't reattach the negative battery cable; carry out the Supplemental Restraint System verification test when servicing any Supplemental Restraint System element.
