2006 Chrysler Pacifica Shock Absorber Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Properly Remove and Install a Shock Absorber on 2006 Chrysler Pacifica?
A: First, lift and hold the vehicle, then take off the wheel and tire assembly before you remove the shock absorber. For safety, stand an extra pair of jack stands below the engine cradle's front end before working on the rear suspension. In AWD vehicles, use a transmission jack and in cars without AWD, a utility jack. Raise the jack slowly under the center of the rear suspension cross-member or rear driveline module (depending on your vehicle type). Remove both upper bolts of the shock, then the lower bolt and the nut. It's important not to take out or loosen the mounting bolts for the crossmember on the other side, as it will require correcting the rear wheels when you're done. Take out the two crossmember bolts in the front and in the back on the side you are working on, making sure not to lower the crossmember too much. Lower the jack slowly to get the crossmember down just so the shock fits under the body flange. Then tip the top end of the shock out and lift the lower end clear of the spring link. The lower section of the absorber goes into the spring link's pocket and tip the top inside until lined up with the holes. Screw the upper mounting bolts into place, but make sure you have not tightened them yet. Guarantee that the isolator is set and the spring lower end coil is touching the abutment fixed to the spring link. With care, lift the jack and move the coil spring and bottom absorber until you see the lower mount hole match the hole in the link. Place the lower shock mounting bolt for now, not tightening it. Use the jack to raise the crossmember higher so that you can place and tighten the two crossmember mounting bolts to 163 Nm (120 ft. lbs. torque). Turn the upper mounting bolts of the shock absorber to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.) and then let the vehicle rest on the ground. Secure the wheel and tire onto the stock hub and tighten the nuts at the sequence and correct torque and lower the whole car when done. Put the vehicle on an alignment rack or hoist, drive-on type and after identifying the mounting bolt, raise it to the level allowing for easy bolt access and torque it to 102 Nm (75 ft. lbs.) setting.
