2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser A/C Condenser Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to remove and install an A/C condenser on 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: First, disconnect the battery's negative cable and isolate it and then recover the refrigerant from the A/C refrigerant system. Take away the battery support strut and the nuts securing the A/C liquid line and the A/C discharge line to the A/C condenser and throw out the O-ring seals. After opening the line fittings and condenser ports, cover or tape over them and then take out the upper radiator mounts and condenser retaining bolts. Slant the radiator toward the back before very carefully pulling the A/C condenser from the engine space. If changing the A/C condenser, include 30 milliliters of the prescribed refrigerant oil into the system after installation. Always replace the O-ring seals on the refrigerant line when any part of it is opened, since it can leak afterward. Tilt the radiator to the back again, slide the A/C condenser into the front of the engine bay and use a torque wrench to secure the retaining bolts to 4.5 N.m. After that, add the upper radiator mounts and detach the tape or plug from the refrigerant line fittings and condenser ports. Apply clean refrigerant oil to new rubber O-ring seals and use only the right O-ring types when placing them on the refrigerant line fittings. Secure the ends of the liquid and discharge lines to the A/C condenser and screw on the retaining nuts snugly but not too tight (20 N.m). Lower the battery support strut into position, link the negative battery cable, evacuate unwanted air from the A/C system and add refrigerant as the instructions say.
