2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser A/C Hose Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair an A/C Hose Suction Line Safely on 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: The A/C suction line service and repair should start by removing the refrigerant from the system. Remove the bolt holding the A/C suction line to the top of the compressor and disconnect and throw away the O-ring seal. Plugs or tape must cover the opened line for suction and the opening to the compressor inlet. On vehicles with the 2.4L Turbo engine, take out the nut that holds the suction line retaining bracket to the bolt for the thermostat housing. For the next step, detach the nut holding the A/C suction line to the accumulator tubes, pull the suction line out of the accumulator tube assembly and throw away the O-ring. Before you pull the A/C suction line from the engine area, cover the suction line fitting and the accumulator tube port with a plug or tape. As you are installing, place the suction line from the A/C in the engine compartment and remove the tape or plugs from the fitting on the suction line and on the accumulator tube. After lubricating, set the new rubber O-ring seal in place on the suction line, using the O-ring and refrigerant oil recommended by the automaker. Connect the A/C suction line to the accumulator tube and fasten it with a 20 N.m (180 in. lbs.) nut. If your vehicle has the 2.4L Turbo engine, fit the nut holding the suction line bracket to the position marked by the thermostat housing bolt and tighten the bolt to 5 N.m (44 in. lbs.). Lift away the coding tape or plug from each port, lubricate a nice rubber O-ring seal with clean oil and fit the seal onto the suction line fitting. Connect the A/C suction line to the A/C compressor, bolt it in place using a socket ratchet and tighten it to 12 N.m (108 in. lbs.). After servicing, remove all vehicle parts and add the necessary refrigerant once more.
