2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser Timing Belt Tensioner Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Timing Belt Tensioner on 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Remove the timing belt and timing belt idler pulley as the first part of repairing or replacing the belt tensioner and pulley. Grab the Camshaft Sprocket Holder 6847 and hold the camshaft sprocket as you loosen and remove the bolt and that way you can remove both camshaft sprockets. Following this, take the screws that fasten the rear timing belt cover and take the cover off the engine. Remove the linking bolt from the timing belt tensioner assembly and remove the tensioner together. Before putting the tensioner assembly in position, start by putting the lower mounting screw in first without tightening it. To get the tensioner aligning correctly, set one of the engine bracket mounting bolts (M10) about 5-7 turns into the upper mount. Rotate the lower tensioner mount bolt to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.), then remove the upper alignment bolt. Set the rear timing belt cover and all its fasteners in place. Place the timing belt idler pulley and turn the bolts with a torque wrench to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.). Don't use an impact wrench when dealing with the camshaft to sprocket locating dowel pin, to avoid damaging it. After that, place the camshaft sprockets on with the Camshaft Sprocket Holder 6847 and secure them with bolts at 115 Nm (85 ft. lbs.). Subsequently, add the timing belt.
