2006 Dodge Caravan Wheel Cylinder Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Wheel Cylinder on 2006 Dodge Caravan?
A: Before everything else, use a brake pedal depressor to hold the brake pedal past the first inch to ensure that brake fluid doesn't leave the master cylinder when you separates the tube from the wheel cylinder. Lift the car and remove the assembly holding the wheel and tire. Take off the rear brake tube connector and place cap on each side of the tube. Installation requires you to take out the brake drum and the brake shoes while throwing out any that are tainted. Take off the 2 bolts that are holding the wheel cylinder to the brake support plate and remove the wheel cylinder from the plate. Once the brake drums are off, examine the wheel cylinder boots for mailbrake fluid leaks, cuts, tears or cracks from heat; repair or change anything needed. Should a wheel cylinder be leaking and the brake lining material have absorbed brake fluid, you should exchange the brake shoes. Apply a sealant called Mopar Gasket-In-A-Tube to the opening for the wheel cylinder in the brake support plate, attach the wheel cylinder to the brake support and tighten the bolts to 8 Nm (75 inch lbs.). Join the brake tube to the wheel cylinder and tighten the tube nut to 17 Nm (145 inch lbs.) torque. Hold the brake support plate with one hand and secure the rear brake shoes in place on the plate, while simultaneously fitting the brake drum and wheel and tire. Before you remove your hand, tighten the lug nuts by hand to 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.) using a torque wrench. Adjust the drum brake shoes, release the depressor tool, bleed the brakes when that is needed and then bring down the vehicle.
