2006 Dodge Durango Power Steering Pump Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Effectively Service and Repair a Power Steering Pump on 2006 Dodge Durango?
A: Be sure the engine is turned off and verify the fluid level so you don't get hurt by the moving pieces while fixing or replacing the pump. Only put Mopar Atf+4 into the power steering system, because other fluids might harm the pump and the whole system; don't overfill it. Wipe the filler cap, then look at the dipstick parked Cold to verify the temperature. Turn the wheel all the way to the left, fill the reservoir with the pump fluid up to the mark and let it sit for at least two minutes. Lift the front of your car off the ground, turn the steering wheel back and forth until it stops and check your oil level after doing this 20 times. Turn the engine on and make sure the fluid level remains stable while it's idling. Place the front wheels on the ground and let the engine idle for two minutes, after which turn the steering wheel back and forth to ensure the assist is working and the pump operates quietly. In case the fluid looks very foamy or creamy, have the car stand for several minutes and check the fluid again. Keep the vehicle running with foamy fluid only for a little while to avoid harming the pump.
