2006 Dodge Ram 1500 A/C Accumulator Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Install an A/C Accumulator on 2006 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: You should isolate the negative battery cable and recover refrigerant out of the system before taking out the A/C accumulator. Lift off the A/C housing cover and remove the secondary clip (11) that holds the A/C suction (10) to the accumulator outlet tube by pulling the spring-lock coupler apart (1). Remove the A/C suction line from the A/C accumulator using the proper disconnecting tool and get rid of the O-ring seals. If able, pull off the push-pin type wire harness retainer from the plastic wire harness bracket on the A/C accumulator and place the engine wire harness so it won't be in your way. Unscrew the (8) bolts connecting the A/C accumulator (7) to the dash bracket, then remove the (4) secondary retaining clip from the (6) spring-lock coupler connecting the tubes. Once again, use the correct disconnect tool to remove the accumulator inlet tube from the evaporator outlet tube. Throw out the O-ring seals. Process a quick step by sticking plugs into the open refrigerant connections or by covering them with tape. To replace the A/C accumulator, unbolt it and, if the car is equipped with one, also remove the plastic wire harness bracket. If putting in an A/C accumulator, add 2 fluid ounces (60 milliliters) of the recommended refrigerant oil to the A/C system during installation. Fit the accumulator onto the dash bracket, inserting the bolts (8) loosely into the accumulator mounts and fitting the plastic holder for the wiring into its recess in the accumulator. Unplug or remove the tape from the openings in the refrigerant lines, add lubricant to any rubber O-rings and put them on the end of the accumulator tube (1 and 6) using just those special seals for the R-134a. Links the spring-lock coupler to the accumulator inlet tube (3) with the evaporator outlet tube (5) and attach the secondary retaining clip (4). Crank the accumulator mounting bolts to 4.5 N.m (40 in. lbs.), then attach the engine wire harness clip to the plastic wire harness bracket, place the A/C suction line (10) on the outlet tube (2) of the accumulator and secure it with the secondary retaining clip (11). Next, mount the cover for the air filter housing, empty the refrigerant, fill the system back up and plug in the negative battery cable.
