2006 Dodge Ram 1500 Seat Belt Parts and Q&A
Q: Are Seat Belts and Child Restraint Anchors Key to Ensuring Safety and Preventing Injury on 2006 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: Throughout and following any service, always inspect seat belts, buckles, all hardware used to secure them, retractors, tether straps and anchors to protect yourself from injury or death and avoid personal injury. If any part of a belt is cut, frayed or torn, replace it; straighten twisted belts; tighten loose fasteners; and replace belts with damaged or broken buckles or retractors, along with any belt having a bent or broken latch plate or anchor plate. Any child restraint anchor or small integral piece that has been bent or broken should also be replaced. You should never repair a seat belt or child restraint part; always get brand new parts from the DaimlerChrysler Mopar parts catalog. In all models, the front center seat belt buckle is on the left, fixed in place, while the three-point center seat belt in standard cab models has a unique, black, keyed, lower anchor buckle on the right, also fixed. Both quad cab and mega cab models place the fixed position front center seat lap belt on the right side of the front center seat section. When removing the seat, place the front outboard seat in its most halting position and tilt it in to reveal the lower anchor of the seat buckle, lap belt or anchor buckle. Rear floor panel stowage should be removed from standard cab models. Take out of the front seat the screw that holds the center seat's lower anchor, lap belt or buckle to the support bracket under the seat. You can find the seat belt buckle or lap belt next to the side of the center seat cushion, remove it, retract the elastic strap and take out the unit from the seat in front. When installing, guide the front center seat belt buckle, lap belt or anchor buckle unit down through the elastic strap on the side of the center cushion. Pass the lower anchor of the seat belt buckle, lap belt or anchor buckle unit between the side of the center seat cushion and the nearest right or left front outboard seat cushion so the belt has no twists. Attach the lower anchor in the center seat support bracket by doing the same so the anti-rotation tab connects into the opening in the bracket. Tighten the lower anchor screw to the center seat support bracket to 40 N.m (29 ft. lbs.). Put the stowage tray onto the floor panel behind the seat for standard cab models.
