- Q: How to Inspect and Remove the Front Center Seat Belt Buckle on Dodge Ram 1500?A:All models have a front center seat belt buckle on the left side and a distinctive black, keyed front center seat belt lower anchor buckle on the right side for the three-point center seat belt in eligible standard cab models. All quad cab models require the same lap belt installation at the fixed position front center seat, but standard cab models are unique in using a three-point front center seat belt with retractor. While performing seat belt maintenance, look at every belt, buckle, attachment and retractor for correct functionality and damage, replace any belt that has tears or frays, straighten rippled belts, tighten loose mounts and replace belts with carries, faulty retractors, bent buckles or damaged anchor plates because seat belt parts do not need repairs. Next, roll the front outboard seat section forward so you can see the center seat belt buckle and unscrew the buckle from the center support bracket. Grab between the middle and nearby outside Seat Cushions to get the buckle from the elastic strap on the side of the middle cushion. Put the seat belt buckle between the center and nearby outboard cushions, run it under the elastic strap and set the center seat support bracket screw to 40 Nm (29 ft. lbs.). Last, place the closest outboard seat back in its regular spot.
- Q: How to Maintain the Front Outboard Seat Belt and Retractor in a Standard Cab on Dodge Ram 1500?A:Before touching the seat belt and retractor in the back of a standard cab, first turn off the supplemental restraint system by isolating (disconnecting and unhooking) the battery negative cable for two minutes. Look at all seat belts, their buckles, the hardware that holds them, retractors, tether straps and anchors, checking them for damage and missing fasteners and switching any cut or frayed belts to avoid accidents. Only the plastic web stop button in the seat belt and retractor unit can be changed; read the service kit instructions for correct replacement. If a seat belt and retractor unit are damaged and the tensioner has not released, use the instructions for handling unreleased supplemental restraints. Before you take off the device, read the service procedures for the time after deployment. Set the front outboard seat belt and retractor above the B-pillar and attach the tab on the upper bracket to the hole in the pillar. Hold the lower retractor bracket screw loosely and install the upper bracket screw, tightening it to 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.). After that, tighten the other screw for the lower retractor bracket to 39 Nm (29 ft. lbs.). Firmly push the belt web guide until you hear the clips snap. Put the white wire harness connector on the driver seat belt tension reducer and the yellow connector on the seat belt tensioner initiator. Install the lower trim first, making sure you can access the turning loop and then add the upper one too. Place the rope-end of the seat belt underneath the height adjuster and fasten it with a screw tightened to 39 Nm (29 ft. lbs.). Attach a new cover over the turning loop; make sure the tabs place themselves into position. Slide the lower end of the seat belt into the mounting hole by the outside of the front seat frame, so the webbing is not bent and fix it with a tightened screw. Put the lower anchor cover back into place and attach the stowage tray to the rear floor. Connecting the battery negative cable again should be delayed until all tests after servicing any supplemental restraint system component have finished.
