2006 Dodge Ram 2500 Brake Pad Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair Brake Pads on 2006 Dodge Ram 2500?
A: Before you deal with the brake pads, support the vehicle on jack stands and then take out the wheel and tire assemblies. Press the caliper closed and carefully tilt the caliper assembly off the brake adapter by holding the top and lowering the caliper down, so the brake hose doesn't help. Secure and place the caliper and then lift out the inside brake shoe from the caliper adapter, ending with the outside brake shoe. Get rid of the upper and lower anti-rattle springs mounted to the caliper adapter, remembering not to exchange them. Get the pistons into the caliper bore by having an old brake shoe sandwiched between the C-clamp and the piston. Wash the caliper mounting adapter and clean the anti-rattle springs and then lubricate them with Mopar brake grease. After that, replace the top and bottom anti-rattle springs, then put in the inboard and outboard brake shoes in the adapter. Slide the top of the caliper down, resting it over the rotor and below the adapter and then push the caliper's bottom into place on the adapter. Once the assemblies are installed, ensure the car is lowered, apply the brakes a few times to settle them and you'll notice the pedal is now firm. The last step is checking and filling the master cylinder with fluid if necessary.
