2006 Dodge Ram 2500 Parking Brake Cable Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Rear Parking Brake Cable on 2006 Dodge Ram 2500?
A: First, lift and place the vehicle on supports, then disable the parking brake by turning the cable lock and afterward loosen its adjustment nut. Separate the rear park brake cable from the intervening park brake cable, squeeze the tabs on the end fitting to remove it from the frame bracket and draw the cable out of the bracket. From behind the rotor, unhook the park brake cable (2) from the rotor assembly, press in the cable tabs on each end at the brake cable support plate and then remove the cables from those plates. Do the same thing for the right rear cable: raise and support the car, lock out the equalizer parking brake cable and loosen the brake cable at the equalizer and adjuster nut. Remove the cable coming from the front cable and equalizer, then detach it from the bracket on the frame, the axle bracket and the shock bracket and then remove the cable (4) from the brake lever (3). To access the left rear cable, raise and hold the vehicle, secure the parking brake cable (2) and unscrew the brake cable at the equalizer and adjuster nut. Pull the left brake cable off the equalizer, disconnect cable (4) from the frame bracket and eliminate it from the brake lever. Seat each cable's end (2) into the front of the brake support bracket and pull it to lock the tabs in place and check that the cables are properly secured. Slide the cable up through the frame bracket and fix the tabs of the left cable end fitting into the frame bracket hole. Attach the rear end of the cables to the tensioner rod behind the brake assembly, join the cable to the intermediate connector, take the lockout off, make the park brake adjustment and lower the car. For the right rear cable, put the cable (2) on the brake lever (3), mount the cable bracket to the shock bracket and secure the cable to both the axle and frame brackets. Hook the certain cable to each end of the equalizer, then use the adjuster nut to tighten or loosen the brake cable at the equalizer. For the brake cable on the left rear, hook brake cable (4) onto the brake lever, add it to the frame bracket and bring it to the equalizer, adjusting the cable at the equalizer and adjuster nut.
