2006 Dodge Ram 3500 Knock Sensor Parts and Q&A
Q: How Should a Knock Sensor Be Serviced and What Does It Involve on 2006 Dodge Ram 3500?
A: This service includes taking off two sensors on the outside of the cylinder block, below the exhaust manifold and putting them back in place. Start by raising the car and separating the knock sensor electrical wire before handling the sensor. After that, take out the sensor mounting bolt and be careful not to add any adhesive or sealant to the foam strip found on the thread, as it is claimed to keep the bolts in position only during plant assembly. After taking the sensor out of the engine, clean the mounting hole where it was found before you install the new knock sensor. Applying the right tightness to the sensor bolts ensures not only safe operation but effective knock sensor and spark control. Always apply torque of 20 N.m (176 in.lbs.) when fastening the mounting bolt. Reattach the electrical connector to the sensor when you've finished.
