2006 Dodge Ram 3500 Camshaft Position Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Correctly Remove and Install a Camshaft Position Sensor on 2006 Dodge Ram 3500?
A: Since you will find the Camshaft Position Sensor (CMP) under the timing chain cover next to the generator, it must be handled with useful precautions. Start by removing the electrical connector at the CMP sensor, followed by the removal of the sensor's mounting bolt. Turn the sensor gently from the cylinder head and check the condition of the O-ring on the sensor. Before inserting the sensor, first remove any debris from the machined hole in the cylinder head, then install it gently by walking the sensor into position without twisting, to protect the O-ring. After placing the sensor level with the timing chain cover, tighten the seal with 12 N.m (106 in.lbs.) of torque. Then, put the electrical connector back into the sensor.
