2007 Dodge Ram 3500 Knock Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Knock Sensor on a 5.7L Engine on 2007 Dodge Ram 3500?
A: Before doing anything, you should be sure to clean the knock sensor mounting hole on the 5.7L engine thoroughly. After that, attach the sensor to the block of the engine. Take care not to tighten or loosen the sensors too much, since this can lead to bad knock sensor behavior and wrong spark timing. An 8 mm bolt ordinarily has a high torque requirement of 121 inch-pounds (160 Ncm) but the torque for the knock sensor bolt is a low 15 ± 2 ft. lbs. The foam around the bolt threads is there only to hold them in place during plant assembly and nothing else should be put on the bolts. Next, secure the mounting bolt and join the electrical connector to the sensor.
