2006 Jeep Commander Rocker Arm Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service a Rocker Arm Assembly on 2006 Jeep Commander?
A: When working on a rocker arm assembly, start by taking out the battery negative cable to make sure the starter doesn't come on by mistake. Take off the cylinder head cover. To remove the rocker arm from cylinder No. 4, turn the crankshaft until cylinder No. 1 is in its intake bottom dead center. Turn the crankshaft until cylinder No. 1 reaches BDC during its combustion stroke. Rotate the crankshaft so that cylinder No. 1 is at TDC exhaust for cylinder No. 3 and 5. Make sure TDC ignition on cylinder No. 1 happens before rotating the crankshaft for cylinders No. 2 and No. 6. Using Tool 8516 Rocker Arm Remover, rest your pressure on the valve spring to remove the rocker arm. Position Tool 8516 so the spring is secure, put the rocker arm on top and set the concave part over the lash adjusters to avoid severe harm. Add clean engine oil to the rocker arms just before you start installation. Turn the crankshaft until cylinder No. 1 is at BDC intake before installing the rocker arm for cylinder No. 4. Turn the crankshaft on cylinder No. 1 until that cylinder is at BDC combustion stroke. Crank No. 3 and No. 5 until cylinder No. 1 is on its exhaust TDC stroke. To complete cylinders No. 2 and No. 6, turn the crankshaft until cylinder No. 1 reaches its TDC ignition stroke. Set and tighten the cylinder head cover in the last step.
