2006 Jeep Commander Wiper Motor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Maintain a Wiper Motor for Rear Windows on 2006 Jeep Commander?
A: Unplug the battery's negative cable to begin the maintenance of the rear window wiper motor. Release the wiper arm from the motor shaft and afterward, remove the nut that joins the output shaft to the outer panel. Following this, take off the bezel from the output shaft and remove the trim panel from the inside of the liftgate. Take out the wire harness connector from the rear wiper motor. After loosening the screws that hold the motor mounting bracket to the liftgate bracket, slide the wiper motor forward to take the screws out of the keyed holes and remove the motor. For mounting, insert the rear wiper motor together with its bracket into the liftgate, making sure the screws aren't tightened yet. Insert the liftgate's motor shaft into the hole and drive in screws into the matched holes. After installing the mounting bracket, fit the bezel over the motor shaft and join them in the hole where the liftgate outer panel is fixed. Secure the bezel and output shaft to the outer panel of the liftgate by turning the nut to 5 N.m (43 in. lbs.) and tighten the two screws which secure the motor bracket to the liftgate to 6 N.m (50 in. lbs.). Rebuild the wire and plug the liftgate wire harness into the wiper motor, install the trim panel back onto the liftgate, click the rear wiper arm onto the output shaft and connect the battery negative cable again.
