2006 Jeep Liberty Exhaust Manifold Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair an Exhaust Manifold on 2006 Jeep Liberty?
A: The first step to servicing the left exhaust manifold is to detach the negative cable from the battery and prop up the car. Take out the bolts and nuts joining the exhaust pipe to the engine manifold before you lower the vehicle. After that, loosen the exhaust heat shields off the manifold and eliminate the nuts, bolts and washers that hold the manifold to the head and carefully remove the manifold and gasket from the cylinder head. For studs that came out with their nuts during removal, use new studs with a film of sealer on the threads to block where water may enter during installation. Before installing the stud threads, place the engine exhaust manifold on top of the cylinder head allowing the gasket to touch the studs. Earlier, you installed the needle washers and tightened the bolts and nuts to 4 Nm (3 ft. lbs.). Install the remaining conical washers and screw down the bolts and nuts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.) torque, beginning with the center arm and tightening outward. Mount the exhaust heat shields by not cranking too tight on the fasteners to prevent any defects in them. Then, align the exhaust pipe to the manifold and fix them tightly with bolts, nuts and retainers, tightening every connection to 34 Nm (25 ft. lbs.).
