2005 Jeep Liberty Exhaust Manifold Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair an Exhaust Manifold on 2005 Jeep Liberty?
A: Make sure the car is raised, remove the exhaust pipe from the manifold and lower it. After that, unhook the upstream oxygen sensor at the rear of the exhaust manifold, remove the air cleaner bracket and detach the heat shield. Take the bolts out that link the manifold to the cylinder head and remove the manifold for a checking. Remove the gasket if your engine has one and then clean all areas on the manifold and cylinder head where the gasket used to be. Check the gasket seal surfaces for flatness using a straight edge, making certain they are flat within 0.15 mm per 300 mm (0.006 inch per foot) of manifold length and remove the manifold if you see any cracks or distortion. During installation, wipe down both the manifold mating surfaces, mount the exhaust manifold by placing a new gasket on the fitting and tightening every nut to 20 Nm (175 inch lbs.). Join the exhaust pipe to the exhaust manifold, tighten the fasteners to 37 Nm (27 ft. lbs.), fit the oxygen sensor, force the heat shield in place, lower the air cleaner bracket and attach the air channel.
