2006 Jeep Liberty Oil Filter Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Properly Remove and Install an Oil Filter on an Engine on 2006 Jeep Liberty?
A: All engines come with an advanced full-flow, disposable oil filter that should be replaced with a Mopar or equivalent filter. Put a drain pan below the oil filter, use a suitable wrench to loosen the filter and then turn it counterclockwise to unscrew it from the cylinder block oil filter boss. Raise the side with the gasket upward as you remove the filter to stop spilling oil and to be certain the gasket is with the filter when you take it off the vehicle. Clean the area around the gasket using a wiping cloth to remove any dirt or oil on it. For installation, place a small amount of oil on the gasket, thread the filter onto the nipple and tighten it one turn by hand when the gasket touches the sealing surface to keep it from being overtightened. Once you've added oil and checked its level, start the engine and watch for leaks coming from underneath.
