2006 Jeep Wrangler Air Bag Control Module Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Safely Handle the Air Bag Control Module During Servicing on 2006 Jeep Wrangler?
A: Before handling the steering wheel, steering column, driver air bag, passenger air bag or instrument panel components on air bag vehicles, remove the battery negative cable to disable the air bag system for two minutes. The impact sensor in the air bag Control Module (Acm) helps the front supplemental restraints deploy and should not be dropped, because if it is, it must be discarded and a replacement part installed. Disconnect the negative battery cable, then pull back the carpet at the rear and sides of the transmission tunnel to reach the Acm near the front of the floor console. If your model has the Abs feature, take out the acceleration switch from the left side of the bracket. After that, take out the four screws holding the Acm onto the mounting bracket, lift the Acm to unplug the locator pins and remove the body wire harness connector by pressing the white Cpa locks out and squeezing the latch tabs on the connector. Place the new module at the location of the old one under the instrument panel, attach the body wire harness connector, check if the latches and Cpa locks are secure and you're done. Center Acm over the mounting bracket so the locator pins go in the correct holes and the word Forward on the Acm label is on top. Screw in the Acm using the four included screws to the 14 N.m (125 in. lbs.) tightness as shown and if you need to, reconnect the acceleration switch. Once the carpet is back in its place, avoid turning on the battery negative cable before finishing the verification test procedure.
